2025 Volunteer of the Year: Diane Scholfield

2025 Volunteer of the Year: Diane Scholfield

We are so thrilled to announce our Volunteer of the Year, Diane Scholfield. Diane is someone who lives and breathes music. From the many instruments she’s played (and continues to play) in the New Horizons bands, to the tiny harmonica she wears around her neck and plays for our visitors, Diane Scholfield is a resonant example of someone who “walks the walk” when it comes to sharing the Museum’s mission with our patrons.

Diane has been a dedicated volunteer at the Museum for over 5 years and has been part of the museum’s adult music programs for many more. She is tireless in her dedication and does the work (often behind the scenes) that is not the most glamorous! From sanitizing instruments in the children’s area to washing the cleaning cloths to proofreading and editing text to taking notes at the monthly meetings. Diane’s work behind the scenes, coupled with her weekly shifts in the galleries and in the store, made her an easy choice for our Volunteer of the Year.

“Volunteering at the museum has given my retirement life purpose and fun. I really enjoy learning new skills — even the store! I love to show visitors how to play our more unusual Sit and Play instruments, such as the harp, the theremini, the harpeggi and the hammered dulcimer — and of course, learning to play them myself! But probably the very best part of being a MoMM volunteer is working with the other volunteers and the fantastic museum staff. As my non-musician husband likes to say, “Diane, you have found your people.” -Diane Scholfield
